How to Sow Giant Yellow Pansy Seeds

Giant yellow pansy originates from California. An edible variety of pansy, which is common to gardens and displays throughout the UK. A hardy annual, which can flower in the same year if sown early enough. This beautiful variety of pansy produces stunning, 3″ large showy bi coloured flowers. The outside is a bright shade of yellow, transitioning to black on the inside. Yellow pansies are cold tolerant perennials, with them being hardy in milder winter areas.

Cultivation Advice for Sowing Giant Yellow Pansy from Seed

  • Can be sown and grown indoors, best started in a room which is warm, and has an area of complete darkness.
  • The germination period takes between 7 to 21 days, with plants fully maturing in 6 weeks. During the germination period keep the soil moderately moist but well drained.
  • Sow around 1/2″ deep in fresh compost, cover pots with a polythene wrap and place in complete darkness.
  • If sowing seeds directly outdoors, sow after the last frost has passed and the ground is workable.
  • When seedlings are big enough to handle, transplant to their final growing area with plenty of sun with partial shade.
  • Once pansies have fully bloomed they can be harvested to be used in cooking and baking.
