Cultivation advice Growing Giant Kohl Rabi Superschmelz from seed

  • Kohl rabi will grow best in cooler climates. Great started indoors, in pots or seed trays at any time of the year. Sow at a temperature of between 15 and 25 degrees, for maximum germination. Sow around 1/2″ deep.
  • The germination period is between 6 to 10 days and 55 to 65 days to fully mature. Ensure the soil does not dry out, using a well drained compost. Keeping the soil moist will help stop the flesh going woody and tough.
  • Sowing directly outdoors after the chance of the last frost has passed and the ground is workable, can also be sown between July and August. We recommend starting indoors, then transplanting outdoors after around 6 weeks.
  • To help the vegetable while growing, apply lots of grass and straw clippings around the base. Water well during warmer weather.
