How to Sow Welldales Magic Meadow Mix

Welldales Wild Flower Cottage Garden Seeds are a colourful mix of diverse wildflowers that will transform your garden into a vibrant and enchanting space. This seed mix includes annuals and perennials, carefully selected to provide continuous blooms throughout the season.

Growing a Meadow Mix from Seeds

  • Soil Preparation Advice: Clear the area of weeds, loosen the soil with a fork/tiller, add organic matter for fertility/drainage and create a level seedbed with careful raking.
  • Seed Sowing Advice: Wait for warm, moist soil between 10C to 20C in autumn/spring, prepare the surface as per soil advice, scatter seeds evenly sparingly, mix with sand for distribution, and lightly press into the soil for good contact.
  • Seed Spacing: No need for precise spacing due to mixed species, aim for natural, diverse display and spread seeds evenly without concentration for balanced distribution.
  • Thinning: Once the seedlings emerge, they may initially appear dense. To promote healthy growth and prevent overcrowding, thin out the seedlings as needed. Maintain a spacing of about 6-12 inches between the plants to provide enough room for them to develop fully.

Caring for Wildflower Seeds

  • Maintenance: Water seedlings regularly to keep the soil moist, ensuring that the plants receive full sun or partial shade as per their requirements. Remove aggressive weeds, deadhead faded flowers, and apply organic mulch to promote a thriving cottage garden. Remember to avoid the use of chemical fertilizers, as they may negatively impact the growth of plants.
  • Germination and Maturity: Germination varies from days to weeks, while maturity and full bloom may take months. Provide consistent care and patience during this period.
  • Common Pests and Diseases: Control aphids with water or insecticidal soap, protect seedlings from slugs and snails using barriers, and combat powdery mildew through improved air circulation, watering practices, and organic fungicides.
